Après ces choses, la parole de l’Éternel fut adressée à Abram dans une vision, en disant: Abram, ne crains point. Je suis ton bouclier, ton salaire très abondant.

Et Abram dit: Seigneur Éternel, que me donneras-tu? Je m’en vais sans enfants, et l'héritier de ma maison, c'est Éliézer de Damas.

And AbramH87 saidH559, Behold, to me thou hast givenH5414 noH3808 seedH2233: and, lo, one bornH1121 in my houseH1004 is mine heirH3423.

Et Abram dit: Voici, tu ne m’as pas donné de postérité; et voici, un fils de ma maison, héritera de moi.

And, behold, the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 came unto him, sayingH559, This shall not be thine heirH3423; but he that shall come forthH3318 out of thine own bowelsH4578 shall be thine heirH3423.

Et voici, la parole de l’Éternel lui fut adressée, en disant: Celui-là n'héritera pas de toi, mais celui qui sortira de tes entrailles sera celui qui héritera de toi.

And he brought him forthH3318 abroadH2351, and saidH559, LookH5027 now toward heavenH8064, and tellH5608 the starsH3556, if thou be ableH3201 to numberH5608 them: and he saidH559 unto him, SoH3541 shall thy seedH2233 be.

Et il le fit sortir dehors, et dit: Regarde au ciel, et compte les étoiles si tu peux les compter. Et il lui dit: Ainsi sera ta postérité.

And he believedH539 in the LORDH3068; and he countedH2803 it to him for righteousnessH6666.

Et [Abraham] crut en l’Éternel, qui le lui imputa à justice.

Et [Dieu] lui dit: Je suis l’Éternel, qui t'ai fait sortir d'Our des Caldéens, afin de te donner cette terre-ci pour la posséder.

And he saidH559, LordH136 GODH3069, wherebyH4100 shall I knowH3045 that I shall inherit itH3423?

Et il dit: Seigneur Éternel, à quoi connaîtrai-je que je la posséderai?

Et [Dieu] lui dit: Prends pour moi une génisse de trois ans, une chèvre de trois ans, un bélier de trois ans, une tourterelle et un pigeonneau.

Et [Dieu] dit à Abram: Sache certainement que ta postérité séjournera dans une terre qui ne sera point à eux et ils y seront asservis, et on les humiliera pendant quatre cents ans.
